Chinese Painting Scroll – Silk Wall Art – Drinking Scholar

A traditional silk hanging scroll, this piece centers on drinking scholar. The scroll announces itself with a scholar in flowing robes. As chinese figure painting scroll goes, a scholar in quiet repose gives this one real presence. A worthy centerpiece for a thoughtfully styled wall.

It is a fine example of ink wash at its most delicate. Look closely and you will find hazy drinking. The mounting follows the classic format, with rollers top and bottom. Tones are mellow, the way good scrolls tend to be. A fine example of how little a wall needs to say a lot.

This drinking scholar scroll belongs on any shortlist of chinese silk scroll. It keeps good company with other chinese brush painting; distant drinking adds quiet interest. It transitions gracefully from apartment to forever home. Consider it for a meditation corner or quiet reading chair. Few gifts combine beauty and meaning this neatly.
